SKILL NOMINATED VISA SUBCLASS-190

The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) is a permanent residency skilled migration visa aimed at professionals already living and working in Victoria with skills that support Victoria’s health response and economic recovery. The visa is administered by the Department Of Home Affairs. To be selected to apply for a Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa nomination, you will need to make or update an EOI via Mentors’.

Eligibility

Once you are selected to apply for a visa nomination for a Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa you can submit your visa nomination application through the Live-in Melbourne website.

To receive a nomination for a Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa, you will need to meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

Age

You must be under age 45 to lodge an application for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa.

English language

You must have a competent level of English (or equivalent).

The competent level is equivalent to a score of at least six (6) in each band score of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or equivalent results in accepted alternative tests. You can obtain the IELTS equivalent in any of the following Department of Home Affairs’ accepted language tests: OET, TOEFL IBT, PTE Academic, and Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE).

You must upload a scanned copy of your English language test result as a part of the online nomination application. Please ensure that your English test result is valid for at least 12 weeks at the time of submitting a visa nomination application.

 Residency

You must have lived and worked in Victoria for at least the past 6 months.  You will be required to provide evidence of your residency with your application form.  For example, you may wish to provide:

  • a current real estate lease or bond agreement
  • a bill or documentation evidencing your ongoing residence in Victoria over the past 6 months.

Employment and occupation

You must be currently employed in Victoria and working in a highly-skilled occupation in health or medical research which supports Victoria’s economic recovery or health response for at least the past 6 months. Applicants with a track record of commercializing innovative ideas and bringing them to market will also be highly regarded.

In the last 6 months, you must have been continuously employed in your nominated occupation or closely related occupation. We will consider employment in an occupation that is within the same ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupation) Unit Group as your occupation. We will accept at least 20 hours per week as being ’employed’ for the purposes of applicants evidencing they are currently employed and have been employed in Victoria for 6 months prior to their Registration of Interest application.

International student graduates and PhD applicants who meet the criteria are also encouraged to apply.

If you are a nurse, please note we will only be nominating applicants in the following nursing occupations:

  • Midwife – 254111
  • Registered Nurse (Aged Care) -254412
  • Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) – 254415
  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health) – 254422
  • Registered Nurse (Perioperative) – 254423

Your occupation must also be on one of the Department of Home Affairs’ eligible lists for nomination applications external link.

You will need to provide evidence of this work experience by providing:

  • a signed copy of your current employment contract
  • the past 6 months of pay slips
  • evidence of superannuation contributions from your employer for the past 6 months
  • your current position description
  • Your current employer’s details (including telephone number).

Skills assessment

A skills assessment must match the occupation you have nominated on your visa nomination application and EOI. Please ensure that your skills assessment is valid for at least 12 weeks at the time of submitting a visa nomination application.

Finances

There are no financial requirements as all applicants must already be living and working in Victoria.

Your commitment to Victoria

You must commit to continuing living and working in Victoria for at least 2 years.

Declaration

You and your migration agent (if applicable) must read, understand and sign the Victorian nomination declaration in order to be considered for Victorian visa nomination. See the Skilled declaration form for more information. This completed and signed declaration must be provided with your application at the time of lodgment.

Detailed resume or curriculum vitae (CV)

Your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is a critical document used to assess your suitability for Victorian visa nomination. It must provide evidence of skills and work experience and a detailed, chronological list of all relevant employment.

You should take the time to ensure your CV is professionally presented, descriptive and provides our assessors and industry advisors with a comprehensive reflection of your skills, work readiness, employment history, and work experience. You should explain any gaps in employment.

Your CV should be no more than four pages long and must include:

  • detailed descriptions of relevant tasks and responsibilities performed within all employment
  • dates of employment (including month and year)
  • dates of education and training.

A relevant job offer from a Victorian employer can provide evidence of your work readiness and employability.

Department of Home Affairs requirements

Successfully gaining a Victorian visa nomination does not guarantee that you will be granted an Australian visa. You must also meet the Department of Home Affairs eligibility requirements for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

Apply

  • Check you meet the Department of Home Affairs Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa requirements
  • Make or update an Expression of Interest (EOI)for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa via Mentors’ and indicate your interest for the Victorian nomination, ensuring that you only select ‘VIC’ as the nominating state. You do not need to notify the Victorian Government that you have made an EOI.
  • Submit a Registration of Interest for Victorian Visa Nomination on the Live in Melbourne website during a submission window.
  • Check your email regularly (including your junk mail folder) to see if you have been selected by Victoria.  Only those candidates meeting the eligibility requirements will be considered for selection. If selected, an email invitation to apply for Victorian visa nomination will be sent to your email address used for your Registration of Interest.
  • Submit an online application for Victorian visa nomination external link as soon as possible. Note that you must be able to demonstrate that you still meet the claims that were in your EOI and Registration of Interest when you were selected. We recommend that you have all your supporting documents ready before you make your EOI in Mentors’ as this date cannot be extended.
  • If you are nominated by the Victorian Government, you will receive a Mentors’ invitation to apply for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190).
  • Submit a visa application to the Department of Home Affairs within 60 days of being nominated by Victoria.

With this visa, you can

  • stay in Australia permanently
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • if eligible, become an Australian citizen

Newly arrived residents may have to wait before they can access certain Australian Government payments and benefits.

How long you can stay

This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely. The visa has a travel component that expires 5 years after the date of visa grant.

You become a permanent resident on the day we grant the visa.

For citizenship purposes, your permanent residency starts on the day:

  • we grant the visa, if you are in Australia
  • you enter Australia on this visa, if you are outside Australia

Include family

You can include members of the family unit in your application. You can:

  • include them when you lodge your visa application
  • add them after you lodge your application but before we decide on your visa.

Family members who apply for the visa must meet our health and character requirements. Family members not accompanying you to Australia might also need to meet our health and character requirements.

Cost

The visa costs AUD 4045, spouse AUD 2025, and Child AUD 1010 (Per child) – Government fees excluding professional fee

You might have to pay an extra charge for any applicant 18 years old or older who has less than functional English. This charge is called the second installment. Pay it only when we ask you to. We ask for the charge only if we are going to grant the visa.

The second installment charge for family members is AUD4, 885.

The Visa Pricing Estimator does not include the second instalment or other costs. You might also have to pay other costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics.

You can be inside or outside Australia when you apply for the visa and when we decide your application but not in immigration clearance.

Processing times

We assess applications on a case-by-case basis, and actual processing times can vary due to individual circumstances including:

  • whether you have lodged a complete application, including all necessary supporting documents
  • how quickly you respond to any requests for additional information
  • how long it takes to perform required checks on the supporting information provided
  • how long it takes to receive additional information from external agencies, particularly in relation to health, character, and national security requirements
  • for permanent migration visa applications, how many places are available in the migration program
