IELTS candidates will have a new test format to choose from starting 29 September 2026, with the introduction of IOC+P (IELTS on Computer + Paper).

What is IOC+P?

IOC+P offers candidates the flexibility to complete their Writing answers on paper, while the other components continue to follow the computer-based format.

Under IOC+P:

• Listening, Reading and Speaking will continue to be conducted on a computer.
• For the Writing component, questions will be displayed on the computer screen.
• Candidates will be provided with paper to write their answers by hand.

Candidates Can Choose Their Preferred Format

From 29 September 2026, candidates will have the option to choose between:

IOC (IELTS on Computer): The existing computer-based test format.

IOC+P (IELTS on Computer + Paper): Listening, Reading and Speaking on computer, with Writing answers completed by hand on paper.

This new option gives candidates greater flexibility to select the test format that best matches their preferred way of completing the IELTS Writing component.
